Volunteering with SEF

Springfield Education Foundation always welcomes and appreciates volunteers! We offer volunteer opportunities with various committees, event planning, and more. Our Board of Directors is also currently accepting applications.

If you would like to volunteer with a specific school or program, please visit the Springfield Public Schools District Forms page and scroll to the bottom of the page. There you will find the “Volunteer Application” form. You will be prompted to answer questions about which school(s) you would like to volunteer with and what programs you are interested in supporting.

SEF Board of Directors 

The Springfield Education Foundation is seeking energetic, kid-centric people to join our board of directors. Marketing, Financial, Events, and Fundraising backgrounds strongly desired to support critical areas. Board members are encouraged to take on leadership positions as key leadership positions are vacated. If you are interested in joining a board focused on supporting Springfield students, please fill out our board member application form below.

Join a Committee 

SEF has many committees: Development, Marketing, Programs & Grants, Events, and more! Anyone can join our team as a volunteer, no need to be an SEF Board Member or involved in a specific field. We are stronger when we work together! See below for more info about each committee, and fill out the form below to let us know you’d like to get involved.


Are you interested in helping fundraise for SEF? We are always seeking help to plan and execute our biggest annual fundraiser – the Night of 11,000 Stars – and other events! Help procure donations of items for our auctions, plan the event, or decorate. See “Night of 11,000 Stars Committee” below.

Meetings: First Thursday of the month, 12:00-1:00 pm, virtual meeting
Committee Details: Monitor annual Development Plan, encourage all SEF Board Members to support fundraising efforts,  monitor cost and effectiveness of Development activities, communicate with donors, expand network of SEF supporters
Experience Needed: Communication skills, ability to convey mission of SEF and have relevant stories ready


Meetings: Fourth Tuesday of the month, 12:00-1:00 pm, virtual meeting
Committee Details: Vet situations and opportunities, prepare agenda for Board meetings, evaluate the Executive Director, handle unexpected situations, ensure Articles of Incorporation, By Laws and Policies are followed
Experience Needed: Must be an Executive SEF Board Member: Chair, Vice Chair, Past Chair, Treasurer, Secretary, SPS Superintendent, At-Large Representative

Meetings: Fourth Thursday of the month, 12:00-1:00 pm, virtual meeting
Committee Details: Update and revise Articles of Incorporation, By Laws and Policies, eview monthly financial statements and monitor monthly cash balances, review any proposed changes in financing structure, review the budget and its consistency with the strategic plan
Experience Needed: Develop functional understanding of SEF finances and policies

Meetings: Third Tuesday of the month, 5:30 – 6:30 pm
Committee Details: Ensure SEF programs support Foundation’s mission and strategic plan, provide guidance and handling of memorial funds, provide guidance for Innovative Educator Grant Program, develop and evaluate grant evaluation process
Experience Needed: Interest in advancing learning opportunities in Springfield, some experience in committees and supporting activities preferred 

Meetings: Second Thursday of the month, 12:00-1:00 pm, generally virtual meeting, sometimes in-person
Committee Details: Define the SEF brand, create a vision for our voice, advise other SEF committees on alignment with brand and voice, create tools for board, website, social media, and more
Experience Needed: Some experience with Marketing preferred

Meetings: TBD, generally Wednesdays at 5:30 pm (one meeting per month April – August, two to four meetings per month September – October), generally in-person at the SPS Administration Building or elsewhere
Committee Details: Responsible for coordinating and managing the Night of 11,000 Stars Gala & Auction, assisting with all aspects of event, recruiting attendees, auction packages, and volunteers, taking leadership in sub-committees (Procurement, Decorations, Dessert Dash, and more)
Experience Needed: Some experience with events preferred but anyone is welcome!
