The following Innovative Educator Grants were awarded in Nov. 2009:
Agnes Stewart Middle School: $660 for digital video equipment for use by English Language Development students to produce short videos for classroom use (Amity Cleary-Evans)
Briggs Middle School: $1,000 for board games to use as a reading incentive, to increase reading comprehension and for family involvement (Laura Scruggs, Jason Ray and Zach Adler)
Guy Lee Elementary School: $730 for a third-grade opera performance and all-school assembly (Katherine Anderson, Erik Lovendahl and Wayne Strong)
Maple Elementary School: $915 for musical instruments (Kristin Woodford)
Moffitt Elementary School: $838 for math “wrap-up” kits to help teach basic facts and promote parent involvement (Connie Opsal)
Riverbend Elementary School: $1,569 for iPods and books on CD to engage readers (Eva La Mar, Kathi Caulley, Tiffany Lewis and Colette Trotter)
Springfield Middle School: $350 for headphones and microphones to add audio to video projects (Ashley LaVelle)
Thurston High School: $1,620 for digital cameras and microphones to promote self-expression (Bob Green, Laurie Grote and Jarrett Arnold)
Yolanda Elementary School: $950 for musical instruments (Kristin Woodford)
Yolanda, Riverbend, Maple, Camp Creek and Mount Vernon elementary schools: $2,712 to initiate an iPod Touch pilot project for students with language disorders (Amy Isham, Sara Lindsley and Lori Hornfelt)
