    Calendar

The Springfield Student Art Calendar showcases student artwork (images chosen for the calendar are highlighted in the header images on our website) from Springfield Public Schools. Student artwork was chosen through an art contest conducted by the Springfield Education Foundation. Art selected represents a variety of art mediums from students throughout our K–12 program.

To find out how to submit artwork for future calendars, please contact us at 541-726-3243 or visit us online at www.springfieldeducationfoundation.org. This calendar includes important dates for the 2009–10 school year in Springfield Public Schools. It identifies days when school is not in session and the beginning and end of the school year. It does not include information about the 2010–11 school year because that school session calendar has not yet been determined. This calendar is unique because it provides school information that is not included in common calendars, and special dates such as Public School Volunteer Week and National Teacher Day. It also lists the 10 federal legal public holidays throughout the calendar.

Print Services is happy to support the Springfield Education Foundation through providing partial in-kind printing services support. This is in line with the Print Services mission: “To provide printed material in support of educational programs and to support worthy educational and public service goals.” Print Services provides a wide array of printing services to Springfield Public Schools, non-profits, and other government agencies. Supporting Our Children

In Springfield the schools belong to the community and the community belongs to the schools.

Springfield, Oregon, is a community dedicated to creating a bright and successful future for its youth. The Springfield Education Foundation works with the school district to ensure that our children are solid learners with the knowledge and skills to be productive citizens and work to their highest potential. Citizen support and involvement in the school district is visible at every level—as volunteers, policy advocates, and financial supporters. We care about our students!

Working in alignment with the school district’s core mission the Springfield Education Foundation (SEF) raises money to financially support new and innovative programs, literary projects, the arts, and enhanced instructional technology, as well as an array of enrichment opportunities. SEF has also been able to provide resources for educational programs and activities that are unfunded or under-funded.

The Foundation provides awards and grants for creative initiatives, provides opportunities for recognition of excellence, and encourages parents and the larger community to engage with and support local schools. The Foundation is proud to have supported:

    • District Literacy Initiatives: Gift of Literacy, a yearlong celebration of literacy that provides all first-graders with their own book and energizes community volunteers and organizations to get involved, and Battle of the Books, a districtwide, quiz show-like tournament that encourages and broadens students’ reading interests.

    • District Arts Matter Initiative: This initiative is committed to providing arts opportunities for students in our schools. SEF funds guest artists to work with our students in the schools. SEF has also published and promoted a 16-month student art calendar featuring Springfield students’ artwork.

    • Innovative Grants: These innovative grants are written by district educators and range from purchase of music instruments and science lab materials to funding special multicultural performances for students.

The Springfield Education Foundation is a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit tax-exempt philanthropic organization. Gifts to SEF are taxdeductible.

    About the Calendar

One of the goals of the Springfield Education Foundation is to promote student achievement. This calendar of student artwork is one part of the effort. The Foundation has chosen to publish this calendar to honor Springfield Public Schools student artwork. Proceeds from the sales of the calendars will go to the Foundation’s projects in support of the school district’s educational programs, including the mini-grant program. For several years, the Foundation has been offering mini-grants to schools to enhance educational opportunities for students in the arts, humanities, and sciences. Projects funded by SEF grants have included providing additional science equipment for classrooms, robotics equipment, supplemental reading materials, musical instruments, publishing a collection of student literary work, components for a school sound system for student performances, and classroom document cameras.
