SEF Adds Executive Director

The Springfield Education Foundation has hired Ronnel Curry as its first ever Executive Director. As part of last year’s expansion and reorganization, the board set a goal of bringing on an executive director to meet our new fundraising goals. See the story here in today’s Register-Guard. Celebration Bus Tour

The 1st Annual SEF Celebration Bus Tour made a big debut by visiting 10 schools to award this year’s Innovative Educator Grants.

Calendar Art Note Cards for Sale

The Springfield Education Foundation is offering note cards with the artwork from this year’s calendar. The package contains all of the artwork featured in the Springfield Student Art Calendar for 2009-2010. It consists of 20 note cards with envelopes for $15.00. Calendars are also available for $10.00.

Proceeds from the sales of the calendars and note cards will go to the Foundation’s projects in support of the school district’s education programs, including the Innovative Educator Grants. The successful candidate is responsible for assisting the Springfield Education Foundation Board of Directors in planning, administration, supervision and implementation of a comprehensive development program that will complement and provide financial assistance to Springfield Public Schools. “Last Class of the Day”

Thurston grad Kelly Brye, a passionate supporter of the schools, is hosting a talk show on AM 1320 called Last Class of the Day. Each Wednesday from 3 to 4 he will be talking about issues surrounding education, with a particular focus on Springfield.

His first show last week featured Matthew Backer talking about the Springfield Education Foundation and local schools supporter Mark Molina talking about the importance of education in his life.

Today’s show will focus on the needs of the PTA Clothing Voucher program and what A3 students are doing to help. He’ll also be talking to schools supporter Peter Fritsch about the his April Jewels event that will celebrate special education in Springfield, among other topics.

SEF 1st Annual Education Celebration Bus Tour

On Nov. 18, SEF Board members, community supporters, Springfield and Thurston High Cheerleaders, Thurston High football players and Otto, the Springfield Millers mascot, embarked on a day long journey to 10 Springfield schools to hand out checks to educators who were awarded Innovative Educator Grants.

For years, SEF has funded the Innovative Educator Grant program but this year the board wanted to make a big splash and personally show their appreciation for the hard work by Springfield educators. The bus tour was kept a secret from the grantees and the group entered the buildings with great fanfare – cheering, yelling, noisemakers, pom poms. Grantees were obviously surprised and touched by the ceremony, making this day a great success. Thanks to everyone who participated and made the event happen.

Nancy Golden and her father Arthur also joined us and it was Arthur’s 87th birthday – Happy Birthday Arthur!

SEF 1st Annual Kickoff

On Nov. 5, 2009, the Springfield Education Foundation held its 1st Annual Campaign Kickoff at the Riverbend Annex in Springfield. The event was a great start in our ramp up to support Springfield Schools. The program featured highlights of our many programs, performances by some very talented Springfield students and discussions wit our community partners. Thanks to all who helped make this a great event and to all who attended. Stay tuned for more great events and connections with our community.
